What is a Horizontal Machining Centre (HMC)?
An HMC is a CNC machining centre with a horizontal-axis spindle. Workpieces are mounted on rotary pallets, allowing automatic indexing to multiple machining faces in a single setup. The horizontal orientation also allows chips to fall away naturally — improving cutting efficiency, tool life and surface finish on continuous production. HMCs are typically used for volume manufacturing of prismatic components like engine blocks, transmission housings and gearbox cases.
What is the difference between A 600, H6 and AF-16?
A 600 is the compact production HMC — 600 mm pallet, 16,000 rpm spindle, 22 / 18.5 kW motor — for medium-volume aerospace and automotive components. H6 is the medium-heavy HMC — 1,050 mm work envelope, 8,000 rpm spindle, up to 55 / 50 kW spindle motor — for heavier components and harder materials. AF-16 is the large heavy-duty HMC with 10-pallet pool loader and 15-ton workpiece capacity, designed for large-component unattended production.
Can Hwacheon HMCs be automated for unattended production?
Yes. The AF-16 ships with a 10-pallet pool loader as standard, enabling extended unattended production runs. The A 600 and H6 can be configured with additional pallets and integrated with robot loading systems. Stallion supports full automation specification and integration in India.
